Survival of the (Not-So) Fittest
For some people, just making the decision to join a gym is the hardest part. For others, the hardest part comes in those first days and weeks after joining. It is sore muscles and sheer breathlessness. It’s stumbling through workouts and feeling physically and mentally defeated. But, we promise, if you dig deep and give it all you have, your soreness will subside. You will build endurance. You will learn, and even perfect, your moves. And you will get stronger, mentally and physically.
If you’re new to 9Round (or maybe you’re new to exercise altogether) we’ve got a few tips to help you get things started on the right foot.
Have it your way
The ONLY thing we have in common with Burger King is our ability to customize. 9Round workouts are designed so that people of all ages, fitness levels, and abilities can participate. Every workout is led by a 9Round Certified Trainer, whose job it is to make sure you’re getting the best workout of your life every time you walk through the door.
9Round Trainers will help you correct your form to ensure you are working out safely, and they’ll guide you through each part of the workout, encouraging you to go at a pace that is comfortable for you as you learn. Additionally, if you are just coming off of injured reserve, or you have physical limitations – talk to your trainer! 9Round Trainers will modify the workout to meet your needs.
Follow your heart(rate)
Did you know that your heart rate should be in a specific range (or, zone) to achieve maximum fat burn? And would you believe us if we told you that going too hard is actually detrimental to burning the most calories? While you may think you need to hit those pads, and kick that heavy bag, as hard and as fast as you possibly can - going flat out for two minutes and 30 seconds - how hard and how fast you go actually depends on your age and fitness level (and other science-y stuff.)
9Round’s PULSE® heart rate monitoring technology will tell you exactly when you need to push harder, or ease up, to burn the maximum amount of calories during your workout. Your heart rate is displayed on a large screen for the duration of your workout, with five colored “zones” representing your effort level. If you’re grey or blue, it’s time to pick up the pace! If you’re seeing red, you need to ease up a bit and focus on your breathing. Green or yellow? Say hello to your optimum fat burning zone!
You are what you eat
If you think that working out gives you carte blanche to eat whatever you want, without consequences, you’re wrong. Whether your goal is to lose weight, build muscle, or just be healthier, you can’t get lasting results without making good nutrition part of your routine.
9Round members have a treasure trove of information at their fingertips in the online Member Portal, and it’s all included with membership.
